Addis Ababa, August 11, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed today met with representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) operating in Ethiopia.
The Prime Minister on the occasion said CSOs should pay attention to human development as the contribution of all actors is important to build a strong nation.
The representatives commended the measures taken by the government to reverse the repression that CSOs had endured for several years before the liberalizing of the sector.
They further said that a strong bond should be created between CSOs and the government to bring the required changes.
During the discussion, they also requested the government to provide them support so that they could become strong and fulfil their responsibilities.
The Prime Minister for his part said the amendments made on CSOs law is one of the measures taken by the government to strengthen the role of CSOs in building democracy in the country.
He further indicated that activities of civil society organization should not only be confined to cities but also cover all parts of the country.
He finally urged the organizations to maintain neutrality and work only targeting the benefit of the community.
