Addis Ababa, January 24, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed met with a National Committee formed to coordinate the activities and engagement of Ethiopian Athletes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The committee briefed the Prime Minister on the preparations underway to not only send Ethiopian athletes off, but to ensure they return victorious.
The Prime Minister said on Twitter that “I am happy to have met with our National Olympic Committee to discuss their plans and activities leading to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.”
“Our athletes and sportsmen/women are our national pride. I call upon all Ethiopians to support the initiatives planned by the National Olympic Committee,” he added.
The Japanese capital will host the event 24 July to 9 August 2020.
An estimated 600,000 overseas visitors are expected to flock to the Japanese capital and surrounding regions to attend the Game.
It will be held across nine prefectures, with the majority taking place in two areas of Tokyo: the Heritage Zone and Tokyo Bay Zone.
