Addis Ababa, May 8, 2021 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated this morning the Modjo-Meqi-Batu expressway which is part of the Midjo-Hawassa Superhighway.
The 92 Km length and 32m width road project inaugurated today has been built at a cost of 6.3 Billion Birr.
The mega highway project is also part of the economic integration drive in the horn region, will be adding an impetus to the efforts underway to stirring up investment and trade in the region.
The Prime Minister noted the completion of the highway will pave the way for our country’s economic, social and political integration across the continent.
He added finalization of the project will help increase the flow of tourism and strengthen of our industrial parks.
“Completing the first phase of the country’s contribution to Trans-Africa Highway, farmers can now create market linkages easily, and transportation services will be more efficient.”, the premier elaborated.
It is stated on the occasion the highway is also an additional pathway that helps to utilize the Lammu Port for enhanced import-export activity.
High ranking government officials including president of Oromia Regional State, Shemelis Abdissa have attended the inauguration ceremony.
