PM extends Patriots’ Victory Day congratulations

Addis Ababa, May 5, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has extended his congratulations to Ethiopians on the occasion of 79th anniversary of patriots’ victory against Italian forces.

The day was celebrated across the nation today. In Addis Ababa, it was marked at the victory monument around Arat Kilo in the presence of Addis dweller, representatives of patriots and high ranking government officials.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said “We commemorate the brave resistance of our forefathers and foremothers that paved the path to the freedoms we enjoy today. Their fight for country and people. Their unparalleled commitment to love of Ethiopia demonstrated through the sacrifice of blood and life.

“Not for mere glory. But for a united and sovereign Ethiopia. As generations that came at the heel of their footsteps, we are the torchbearers of unity, peace and prosperity.

“May we learn from our history and have the courage to see growth were others see despair; love where others spin hate; and abundance where others see scarcity. I salute our patriots!”

Ethiopians celebrate the day every year on May 5 to commemorate the victory of patriots against the fascist Italian forces.
