Canada committed to strengthen ties with Ethiopia: Trudeau

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has received Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada at his office today.

PM  Dr Abiy shared the multifaceted reforms underway in Ethiopia anchored in democratization as well as the vision for building holistic prosperity.

Ethiopia gives special place to its ties with Canada and wants the ties, which date back over half a century to be further cemented, he added.

Prime Minister Trudeau expressed the commitment of the Canadian government to strengthen ties with Ethiopia on many fronts.

He said Canada is  keen to strengthen its longstanding educational, development and economic cooperation with Ethiopia.

He appreciated the changes and reforms underway in Ethiopia and affirmed to standby as a friend and good partner.

The two further explored how to work together on common interests of development, climate change trade, investments in energy, agro-processing and pharmaceuticals as well as regional peace and security.

The Canadian Prime Minister arrived yesterday in Addis Ababa for an official working visit.

During his stay in Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister will also hold talks with President Sahle-Work Zewde, Ethiopian partners and stakeholders.

Accompanied by the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, Mary Ng, and her trade delegation, the Prime Minister will promote trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

He will also meet with world leaders attending the 33rd African Union (AU) Summit, and participate in side events focused on deepening Canada’s relationships with African countries.
