Addis Ababa, October 9, 2020 (FBC) –Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has congratulated the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) on its Nobel Peace Prize win.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to the WFP in recognition to its efforts to combat hunger and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.

“My heartfelt congratulations to the World Food Program and its Executive Director David Beasley WFP Chief for being awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

David Beasley, Executive Director of the world’s largest humanitarian organization, extended his gratitude to Nobel Committee for “this incredible honour.”

“We are deeply humbled to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This is an incredible recognition of the dedication of the WFP family, working to end hunger every day in 80+ countries,” he said.

The WFP is the 101st winner of a prize now worth $1.1 million.
