Addis Ababa, May 29, 2020 (FBC) – The Ministerial Committee established to halt the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) today revived performances of the containment efforts.
In the meeting led by Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, participants were provided with current data about cases of COVID-19 in Ethiopia by Minister of Health, Dr Lia Tadesse.
The rate of cases is increasing and 67% of the country’s total confirmed cases are from the capital Addis Ababa, thereby, indicating that the virus spread through the communities, she said.
As part of the efforts to prevent the spread of the virus more than 700 teams of health experts were deployed across the country to hold contact tracing, besides a door-to-door screening and surveillance campaign.
The ICT sub-committee reported the work being done for government entities to effectively utilize technology in lieu of in-person meetings as well as the progress on 75 government services that are now being provided online through 11 institutions.
Similarly, the other sub-committees reported on key milestones as well as challenges, particularly related to complacency in the community.
Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed gave direction for the further strengthening of testing capacities nationally and the need to ensure productivity in key sectors is maintained while responding to the pandemic.
Ethiopia’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 have now reached 968, with 197 recoveries and 8 deaths.
