PM Abiy’s visit to Turkey fruitful in paving way to deepen longstanding ties between two nations: MFA

Addis Ababa, August 19, 2021 (FBC) – In a biweekly press briefing, Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti told journalists that the visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Ankara was successful in paving ways to transform longstanding ties between Ethiopia and Turkey to a higher level.

Saying that Turkey takes a lion’s share in Ethiopia’s foreign investment sector, Ambassador Dina stated that the two countries have signed cooperation agreements in water and military financial areas with a view to deepen their relations in multifaceted areas of cooperation.

Ambassador Dina added that Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen briefed U.S. Special Envoy to the Horn, Jeffrey D. Feltman on the genesis of the conflict in the northern part of the country and initiatives taken by the government to avert the situation.

The terrorist TPLF continued atrocities in Afar and Amhara regions as more than 300,000 people have been displaced from several parts of the two regions following the attacks by the criminal enterprise against innocents.

Ambassador Dina said that the U.S. Special envoy to the Horn has well comprehended how the terrorist TPLF is detested and denounced by the people of Ethiopia for his cruelty and perpetration to dismantle the nation. 

Regarding the geopolitical situation, he disclosed that Sudan has been continuing its illegal activities in border areas. Ethiopia is in a good security position to protect the GERD from any internal and external threat, he added.

According to the spokesperson, Ethiopia has finalized to repatriate more than 4,000 migrants stranded in Yemen.

He further underscored that Ethiopians and people of Ethiopan origion in the Diaspora have been continuing their support to the homeland, adding that they have contributed more than 28 Million USD to the national army.
