Addis Ababa, March 14, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has called upon fellow African leaders to join efforts in establishing our continental public health agency as a premier institution, fully committed to advancing health across the continent.
The Prime Minister toured Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in the early hours of this afternoon.
Ethiopia is proud to host the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), a specialized public health agency of the African Union, the Premier said in a social media post.
According to the PM, Africa CDC’s laboratory and research capabilities play a crucial role in disease prevention and in coordinating responses to epidemics and pandemics.
“This also presents a valuable opportunity for our health sector professionals to engage in continental research efforts and utilize its advanced laboratory facilities,” Abiy stated.
For member states, Prime Minister Abiy added that it is incumbent upon us to strengthen this institution in collaboration with partners.
“Therefore, I call upon fellow African leaders to join efforts in establishing our continental public health agency as a premier institution, fully committed to advancing health across the continent,” he underscored.
