PM praises results achieved under ‘Bounty of the Basket’ program

Addis Ababa, December 29, 2023 (FBC) – Through the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ (Ye Lemat Tirufat) program, milk production, poultry and meat production rates have marked good results in the last Ethiopian calendar year, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said.

The Prime Minister, in a social media post published this morning, reminded that ‘Bounty of the Basket’ (Ye Lemat Tirufat) is a national government program being implemented to improve dairy, poultry, egg, honey, fish and meat production.

“In the past Ethiopian calendar year, milk production, poultry and meat production rates have marked good results as per the plan,” he noted.

He also called for concerted efforts to ensure better productivity results in the current Ethiopian year.

Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture today revealed that the “Bounty of the Basket” program is yielding promising outcomes throughout the country.

In an exclusive interview with FBC, Yohannes Girma, Advisor to Minister of State for Agriculture, underscored that more than 30 million chicken chicks were successfully hatched and distributed to consumers over the course of the previous Ethiopian calendar year.

According to Mr. Yohannes, during the last five months of the ongoing fiscal year, a staggering number of over 30 million chicken chicks have been successfully hatched and supplied to consumers. In addition, he highlighted the ambitious targets set for the current Ethiopian financial year, which include the production of 9.8 billion liters of milk and over 200 thousand tons of honey.

Disclosing the goal to produce more than 130 thousand tons of fish nationwide, Yohannes noted that the Ministry is actively engaged in facilitating and providing the essential resources to accomplish the objectives of “YeLemat Trufat” program in the national economy.
