Addis Ababa, January 11, 2025 (FMC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today received at his office the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who arrived in Addis Ababa in the late hours of this afternoon for official working visit to Ethiopia.
Official photos shared on social media by the Ethiopian premier show that Abiy welcomed the president of Somalia at the Bole international Airport.
Today’s meeting is their second face-to-face meeting since their engagement at the Türkiye-brokered meeting in Ankara which culminated in the announcement of the “Ankara Declaration” on 11th December 2024.
It is noteworthy that the two leaders met in Ankara last month where they agreed, within a spirit of friendship and mutual respect, to leave their differences behind and forge ahead in a cooperative manner to pursue shared prosperity. They also emphasized cooperation and dialogue between the two countries. Both parties committed to “resolutely move forward in cooperation towards common prosperity” while ensuring Ethiopia’s access to the sea.
Since then, the delegation of the two countries have demonstrated their commitment for the implementation of the “Ankara Declaration” with the visit of high-level delegations of the two countries in Addis Ababa and Mogadishu.
