PM Abiy Ahmed underscores the importance of leveraging 2017 Ethiopian Year to nation’s advantage

Addis Ababa, September 10, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has conveyed heartfelt wishes to Ethiopians in celebration of the upcoming 2017 Ethiopian New Year, starting tomorrow.

In his New Year message, the Prime Minister emphasized that time presents vast opportunities, but how we use that time ultimately reflects our efforts. He remarked that the Creator has granted all people time equally, noting that progress arises from diligence and hard work rather than idleness. He recalled chapters in the nation’s history that inspire pride as well as moments of joy, attributing these favorable instances to the effective use of the opportunities granted to the nation.

“Time will continue to change, regardless of our preferences,” he stated, likening time to a relentless force that moves forward without pause or alteration. He underscored the importance of leveraging time to one’s advantage.

The Premier urged reflection on past achievements since the last Ethiopian New Year and posed crucial questions about what preparations have been made for 2017. The answers to these inquiries, he suggested, could transform the significance of entering this new era.

He expressed his hope that “2017 will be a year of transformation for us, rather than a year that changes us.” He anticipates for the implementation of plans, completion of projects with quality and timeliness, and a commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation. “Let 2017 be the year where we mend historical divides through national dialogue and transitional justice, and strive towards complete self-sufficiency,” he added, wishing for a year of effective reforms.

“Let us work together to ensure that 2017 becomes a landmark year in Ethiopian history—a time when we settle our debts, heal our wounds, and lay a strong foundation for realizing our aspirations,” the Prime Minister concluded.

The Prime Minister inspired a vision for future generations, eager for them to reflect on 2017 as a significant time in their nation’s narrative.
