Peace Minister meets WFP Country Director, Japanese envoy to discuss latest dev’t in Tigray

Addis Ababa, February 3, 2021 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Peace Mufrihat Kamil yesterday received Dr. Steven Were Omamo, WFP Representative and Country Director for Ethiopia.

The Minister expressed her gratefulness to the World Food Program (WFP) for its long-standing cooperation with the people and government of Ethiopia at times of crisis.

She also briefed him on the ongoing humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation process in the northern part of the country following the law enforcement process.

Dr. Omamo said WFP is working closely with the National Disaster Risk Management Commission to support and facilitate the ongoing humanitarian relief activities in the country.

He further reaffirmed the readiness of the WFP to a strengthened collaboration on issues prioritized by the Ethiopian government.

In a related development, Muferihat received the Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, Ito Takako, in her office on the same day.

The Minister briefed the Ambassador on the ongoing humanitarian assistance and rehabilitation process in Tigray.

Ambassador Takako said Japan has extensive experience in crisis management and expressed the interest of her country to support the ongoing humanitarian activities in areas identified by Ethiopia.
