Peace and good governance among gov’t’s priorities in the new FY – Deputy PM

Addis Ababa, August 8, 2024 (FBC) – During the new fiscal year, the Ethiopian government’s primary objective will remain focused on maintaining peace and resolving issues pertaining to good governance, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has stated.

This remark was made during the budget performance of the concluded Ethiopian fiscal year and the executive institutions’ accountability to the Prime Minister.

In his opening speech, Temesgen mentioned that promising results were achieved in the concluded budget year. This has created a favorable environment for the continuation of the country’s overall development, he added.

Although maintaining peace has provided a conducive environment for development works, there is still much work to be done, according to the deputy premier.

The implementation of the macroeconomic reform initiated at the beginning of this fiscal year is a significant step, Temesgen underscored in his opening speech. He further called on the institutions to perform exceptionally, helping to achieve the reform’s objectives.

Temesgen noted that the security threat at the beginning of the previous Ethiopian fiscal year has improved by the end of the year. According to the deputy premier, solving governance issues and ensuring the safety of citizens will continue to be the government’s top priority.

Temesgen further highlighted the effectiveness of the ongoing inclusive national dialogue process across the country. He stated that this process will be strengthened in the current budget year.

The deputy prime minister entrusted the institutions to lead by example in addressing governance concerns during the Ethiopian budget year.
