Addis Ababa, July 15, 2024 (FBC) – The Office of the National ID Program has disclosed that over 7 million Ethiopian citizens have enrolled for a digital ID.
This national Digital ID initiative is being executed through a collaborative effort with various institutions, guided by a motto “one person is one.”
Additionally, the National ID Project Office has stated that the registration process is being conducted in a well-coordinated and efficient manner.
Mr. Olana Abebe, Institutional Participation Counselor at the National ID Project, emphasized the significant national advantages of the digital ID service. He explained that it facilitates the recording of demographic and biometric data, assigning a unique personal ID number to each resident.
Approximately 90 million citizens are expected to own a digital ID in Ethiopia within the next three years, he mentioned, noting that more than 7 million have already registered to receive one.
