Over $2.6 billion earned from export trade in 5 months

Addis Ababa, January 1, 2025 (FMC) – The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) today announced that over 2.6 billion USD has been earned from exports of various commodities and items in the past five months of the 2024/25 fiscal year.

It has been stated that export trade has achieved 138.93 percent of the plan with export of more than 548,392 tons of different products in the past five months. It is indicated that the performance is 102.09 percent higher than the 1.299 billion US dollars obtained in the same period of 2023/24 fiscal year.

The Ministry further stated that agriculture sector accounted for 50.42 percent of the total income, mining 39.70 percent, manufacturing 5.55 percent, and electricity and others 4.31 percent. Gold, coffee, electricity and livestock products have exceeded the plan, according to MoTRI.

In the same period, 797.42 million USD was earned from 178.67 thousand tons of coffee exported.

During his recent speech at the parliament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has indicated that agriculture sector is expected to outshine other sectors in the current fiscal year with 6.1% growth.
