Addis Ababa, January 6, 2025 (FMC) – The Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS) has confirmed that over 2 million new job opportunities have been created in the past six months of the 2024/25 fiscal year.
Minister of MoTL, Ms. Muferihat Kamil, stated that promising activities have been undertaken in skills development, job creation, and employee-employer relations in the first half of the current fiscal year.
According to the minister, efforts include facilitating of permanent job opportunities through local, overseas, and other means of employment types.
She pointed out that 1.7 million permanent jobs have been created in the country and 300 thousand abroad.
Ms. Muferihat asserted that the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders initiative announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is contributing to job creation by increasing citizens’ digital skills. It is worth noting that 5 Million Ethiopian Coders is a joint initiative between the Government of Ethiopia and the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
Stating that job creation will continue in the coming months, Muferihat noted that her ministry is planning to create job opportunities for 4.9 million citizens nationwide in the entire 2024/25 fiscal year.
