Norwegian PM meets with Ethiopian leaders

Addis Ababa, February 8, 2020 (FBC) -Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway has held talks with Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed and President Sahle Work Zewde of Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Solberg arrived in Ethiopia for a two day official working visit.

The Norwegian Embassy in Addis Ababa said that “Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed had a fruitful conversation today.”

Prime Minister Solberg, emphasized Norway’s support for the ongoing reform process in Ethiopia and welcomed the government’s commitment to hold free and fair elections this year.

“Norway remains committed to be a constructive partner for Ethiopia through the transition process,” she added.

Prime Minister Solberg also held discussion with President Sahle-Work Zewde and other women leaders, it added.

The discussion focused on the importance of increased female participation in work and politics for economic growth and welfare in Ethiopia, according to the Embassy.

The Prime Minister also attended the official launch of the African Women Leadership fund this morning.

Prime Minister Solberg will have meetings African leaders who are in Addis Ababa for the 33rd African Union Summit.

She will participate at the African Union (AU) side event on Blue Economy, as chair of the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.

She will present the Panel’s achievements and share experiences from Norway.

AU’s Blue Economy Strategy provides an excellent framework for joint action to unlock the potential of Africa’s Blue Economy.
