Norway affirms continued support to Ethiopia in multifaceted areas of cooperation

Addis Ababa, December 10, 2020 (FBC) – Ambassador of Kingdom of Norway to Ethiopia, Merete Lundemo affirmed commitment of her country to continued support to Ethiopia in multifaceted areas of cooperation.

The pledge from the ambassador came at a time when she discussed various issues multilateral ties and current situation in Ethiopia with Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives.

During the discussion, Ambassador Merete Lundemo said the bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and Norway has continued for more than quarter century adding that her country is committed to cement ties in a range of areas of partnership.

Norway is committed to continue support to Ethiopia’s endeavors in improving quality of education, building capacity of professionals in education sector, reinforcing green development capacity, nurturing proper use of forest products and maintaining peace and security of citizens.

She also expressed pledge of Norway to support Ethiopia’s efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to and rehabilitate people impacted by the law enforcement operation in Tigray expressing appreciation to the Ethiopian government for its restore normalcy in the region and bring citizens to peaceful situation in the area.

Chairperson of Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives, Dr. Negeri Lecho, to his part, briefed the ambassador that Ethiopia has transitioned to a decisive step which is focused at bringing culprits to justice, reconstructing infrastructures and responding to needs of the people impacted by the operation.

The chairperson has also expressed gratitude to the government of Kingdom of Norway for sending technology experts Ethiopia as part of knowledge and experience sharing support, according to office of the House of Peoples Representatives.
