Addis Ababa, December 11, 2024 (FMC) – Some nine institutions have reached a milestone Memorandum of Cooperation for Ethiopia’s Airport and Border Management Transformation Program.
In a significant occasion, nine key Ethiopian security and stakeholder institutions have signed the agreement early today.
The signing event brought together high-ranking officials from the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, Immigration and Citizenship Service (ICS), Customs Commission, Ministry of Transport and Logistics, Ethiopian Airlines Group, Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority, and Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute.
The signing of the agreement aims to streamline airport and border management in Ethiopia through the use of technology, information exchange, enhanced security measures, and cohesive collaboration among the institutions.
Moreover, the agreement intends to help maintain Ethiopian Airlines’ great reputation.
It is also anticipated to improve the overall efficiency at the nation’s entry and exit points and improve the country’s growth, it was indicated.
Transport and Logistics State Minister Bareo Hussien, INSA Director-General Tigist Hamid, NISS Deputy Director-General Sisay Tola, Ethiopian Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremikael, ICS Director-General Selamawit Dawit, Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority Director General Getachew Mengiste, Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute Deputy Director-General Binyam Endeshaw, Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew, and Customs Commission Deputy Commissioner Muluwork Derese signed the agreement, according to ENA.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation for the Airport and Border Management Transformation Program, all the nine high-ranking officials reiterated their dedication to working together for the successful implementation of the agreement and to achieve the program’s goals.
The collaborative agreement will help maintain the esteemed reputation of Ethiopian Airlines, improve border management controls, enhance security of travelers and the country, attract more visitors to the expanding Ethiopia’s natural and man-made tourist destinations, contributing to the overall economic growth through enhanced trade and tourism.
