Addis Ababa, October 4, 2023 (FBC) – A new foundation is laid for normalization between Ethiopia and the European Union (EU), Annette Weber, EU’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, said.
The special envoy said that while paying a courtesy call to Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, at his office today.
During the meeting, the two sides deliberated on bilateral issues and regional issues of mutual interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
The Special Envoy, who lauded her productive engagements with the government in the past few years, said a new foundation is laid for normalization between Ethiopia and the EU.
She also expressed the desire of the EU to assist with ongoing developments in Ethiopia.
Deputy Prime Minister Demeke also said that Ethiopia attaches special consideration to its ties with the EU, and the government is committed to revamping its cooperation and addressing outstanding issues through dialogue.
He also noted that the implementation of national mechanisms such as the National Dialogue and Transitional Justice are new departures that are promising to address underlining issues in the country.
