NEBE, Joint Council sign MoU

Addis Ababa, October 19, 2022 (FBC) – National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and Joint Council of Ethiopian Political Parties have signed a memorandum of understanding.

The agreement was signed by the Chairperson of NEBE, Ms. Birtukan Mideksa, and the Chairperson of the Joint Council, Mebratu Alemu.

According to NEBE’s post on Facebook, the agreement will enable the National Electoral Board to support the Council to realize the covenant document signed between the parties in Ethiopia in March 2019.

In line with the responsibility stated in the MoU, the agreement also helps to follow up whether the Council is using the support to be received from NEBE for the intended purpose.

Based on the MoU, NEBE is expected to provide support to the Joint Council on advertisement, preparing press releases and administrative expenses, and covering expenses of trips to monitoring and assisting activities to its regional offices.

In addition to the support it provides to each political party, NEBE has legal powers and responsibilities for monitoring and supporting political parties.

The National Electoral Board confirmed that it has been supporting the Council with necessary office supplies, vehicles, and workplaces.
