Addis Ababa, August 22, 2024 (FBC) – During its 3rd regular session convened today, the National Digital Transformation Council of Ethiopia has reviewed the progress made on the implementation of 5 million Ethiopian Coders’ initiative.
After presiding over the session, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh noted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that digital transformation is a crucial component of his country’s development undertakings.
During this session, the Council reviewed its ongoing work, the implementation of ‘the 5 million Ethiopian Coders’ initiative, tasks related to the national IT Park, and the approval of the National Digital Strategy, Mr Temesgen added.
Recall that the “5 Million Ethiopian Coders” initiative was launched last month by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as part of the national Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy aimed at bridging the digital skills gap.
This project is designed to benefit five million citizens with digital technology training. By 2026, the program aims to equip five million Ethiopian youth with foundational digital skills in Web Programming, Android Development, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
The 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative is a collaborative effort between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates, aimed at training 5 million citizens in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and related digitization skills.
