Nation prioritizes Agricultural Mechanization, rural financing, irrigation this year: President

Addis Ababa, October 5, 2020 (FBC) – While opening the 6th year first joint session of house of federation and peoples representatives, President Sahle-Work Zewde said the nation has given due attention for agricultural mechanization, rural financing and irrigation developments to ensure productivity and economic prosperity this year.

Supply of advanced agricultural technologies and expansion of cluster farming are among the major activities given due attention this year in a bid to ensure food security and transform lives of citizens ahead of nation’s economic prosperity plan.

“The government will exert utmost efforts this fiscal year ahead of realizing economic prosperity in the country,”, the president stressed.

A number of Mega projects will be completed, and made operational this year, according to the president.

Ethiopia will reinforce the Green Legacy Initiative by scaling up best practices drawn from implementation of Sheger, Andinet and Entoto Parks” in to recently launched national beautification and greenery projects such as Gorgora, Koysha and Wonchi natural parks development.

She said two of the turbines of the Grand Renaissance Dam will start power generation and the second phase filling of the dam will be undertaken this year, according to the president.

The government will exert maximum efforts to stabilize the macroeconomic sector and reduce the inflation rate in a much more concrete manner, president Sahle-Work stressed.

A wide range of activities will be undertaken to raise political competence of parties and enable competing parties have remarkable number of seats in the parliament through fair, free democratic election process, she remarked.

Ethiopia has followed uniform position regarding equitable utilization of the Nile River as it did during the previous negotiations held over the last years, the president said, adding diplomatic efforts will be maximized in a way to tell the world its amicable stance on GERD.

Proper emphasis will be given to the education and Health sector in line with creating competent generation and protecting both communicable and non-communicable diseases respectively, the president indicated.

National Digitalization Scheme will be launched and existing activities will be reinforced in order to modernize service delivery in all the social and economic development spheres, the president added.
