Addis Ababa, September 20, 2022 (FBC) – Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs hosted a delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and the Committee on Development at her office.
Minister Ergogie warmly welcomed the delegation led by Robert Beidron and consisting of members of the two committees, political group and secretariat staff and their interpreters.
She explained the wide mandate and responsibility of the Ministry encompassing the issues of women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, the elderly, migrant returnees and social protection.
Members of the delegation raised questions to the Minister focused on women’s rights, gender-based violence and FGM, girls’ education, women and climate change and the status of gender mainstreaming in the country.
Ergogie, in responding to the questions, briefed the delegation on the efforts of the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) and the ministry to protect the rights of women and ensure their empowerment at the policy, institutional and programmatic level.
