More than 313,000 IDPs in Amhara region return home

Addis Ababa, December 25, 2021 (FBC) – More than 313,000 people displaced due to the terrorist TPLF aggression in Amhara Region returned to thier homes and hoseholds, regional Disaster Prevention and Food Security Coordinaiton Commission stated.

Public Relations Head of the Commission, Iyasu Mesfin disclosed that the terrorist TPLF forced more than 2.3 million in Amhara region to flee their home.

He also added that over 7 million people in the region were exposed to catastrophic humanitarian situations due to atrocities committed by the outlawed TPLF.

Following liberation of towns and cities from TPLF’s occupation, coordinated efforts are underway to return IDPs who are temporarily sheltered in Debre Birhan, Mekane Selam, Bahir Dar, Ebinat and other seven places to their homes.

Until now, 163,000 IDPs arrived home with transportation services facilitated by the government while another 150,000 by their own, he indicated.

The Head added that activities are underway to restore houses of the IDPs that were damaged by attacks of the renegade group and to sustainable reinstate people who have been affected by the aggression.
