Addis Ababa, September 26, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia (MoA) indicated that efforts are being made in coordination with regional stakeholders to produce 513 million quintals of crops on 17.4 million hectares of farmland in the current “Meher” growing season.
According to the Ministry, some 17 million 390 thousand 818 hectares of agricultural land is planned to be cultivated in Amhara, Oromia, South, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Afar, Somali, Sidama, Tigray, Harari regions and Dire-Dawa city administration.
So far, 14 million 137 thousand 156 hectares of farmland land has been cultivated through traditional and 3 million 960 thousand 990 hectares of land has been cultivated through mechanized farming system, MoA disclosed.
The Ministry of Agriculture revealed that 16 million 578 thousand 415 hectares of cultivated land has been covered with seeds of different crops.
Of the land covered with seeds of crops, 8 million 280 thousand 741 hectares of land has been cultivated through cluster farming.
