Addis Ababa, May 17, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Agriculture has received the final version of The Ethiopian National Poultry Development Strategy (2022-2031).
The National Poultry Development Strategy 2022-2031 is a plan which was developed in collaboration with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).
During the handover ceremony Fikru Regassa, State Minister at the Ministry of Agriculture conveyed that the strategy aims to increase the productivity and profitability of the poultry sector in Ethiopia, while also improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers who rely on poultry for income and nutrition.
The strategy marks a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s efforts to transform its agriculture sector and improve food security and livelihoods for its citizens.
The strategy was developed in collaboration with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), which provided technical assistance and expertise in the areas of poultry genetics, nutrition, and health.
On the occasion, some of the key objectives of the National Poultry Development Strategy (2022-2031) include: to improve the poultry industry. Improving genetics, nutrition, and disease control measures can increase productivity and efficiency, while ensuring the quality and safety of poultry products.
It is stated that training, extension services, access to finance and markets can help smallholder farmers and other stakeholders in the poultry value chain to improve their operations has been presented.
Fikru Regassa, extended his appreciation and recognized the contributions of various professionals and experts who were involved in preparing a strategy.
Certificates of recognition were given to those who contributed to the development of the strategy.
