Addis Ababa, July 5, 2022 (FBC) – The Women and Social Affairs Minister, Ergoge Tesfaye (PhD) discussed with Deputy Director General of African Development Bank (AfDB) for East African Region, Abudul B Kamara (PhD) on how to enhance cooperation between the bank and the Government of Ethiopia in several areas.
Ergoge briefed the Deputy Director on ongoing endeavors of the Ministry to ensure participation and benefit of women, youths, elderly membes of the community and people with disabilities in the overall socio-economic activities in the country.
The Minister further underlined the need to devise and implement special project to economically assist women engaged in agricultural practices particularly in areas affected by manmade and natural disasters including conflict and drought.
Ergoge further expressed Ministry’s interest to work together with AfDB implementing an integrated youth and women economic programme in areas such as renewable energy, women led commercial centers to benefit 1 million people.
Abudul B Kamara, for his part, reiterated commitment of AfDB to financially assist the projects highlighted by the Women and Social Affairs Ministry. He said the bank prioritizes projects aimed to benefit youth and women in pastoral areas, vulnerable segments of societies; communities affected by manmade and natural disasters and displaced people in the country.
