Addis Ababa, October 28, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Justice of Ethiopia has formalized a partnership with the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HIIL), a prominent non-governmental organization, aimed at enhancing community-focused justice in Ethiopia.
The memorandum of understanding was executed by Ermias Yemanebirhan (PhD), Minister of State for Institutional Building and Reform, and Samuel Muller (PhD), CEO and founder of HIIL.
Discussions under the agreement emphasized the enabling conditions, potential challenges, and strategies for promoting social justice across Ethiopia. Minister of Justice Hana Aryaslase expressed her appreciation for HIIL’s wealth of experience in collaborating with various institutions in the justice sector. She acknowledged the organization’s role in advancing community justice services, an integral component of Ethiopia’s three-year justice transformation plan.
Dr. Muller highlighted the critical need for community justice service centers to address social issues effectively in Ethiopia. Additionally, the Ministry’s communications indicate that HIIL will maintain its ongoing support for the Ministry of Justice to bolster the country’s justice sector.
