Addis Ababa, April 20, 2024 (FBC) – The Ministry of Industry of Ethiopia (MoI) announced that it has signed a project agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to bolster the “Made In Ethiopia” (Ethiopia Tamrt) program.
It was pointed out that this project, focused on enhancing manufacturing industry competitiveness through the implementation of the Ethiopia Tamrt movement, will span the next four years and will include technical, policy, and capacity building support.
Launched last year, the Ethiopia Tamrt program aims to enhance the competitiveness of the country’s manufacturing industry.
During the MoU signing ceremony, Minister of Industry Mr. Melaku Alebel emphasized that his ministry looks forward to receiving support from the agency not only in terms of financial assistance but also for knowledge, skills, and technology transfer. This, according to the Minister, is because of the crucial role that knowledge and technology play in bringing about significant transformations in development and competitiveness.
The Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Ethiopia Office, Oshima Kensuke, stated that Japan will provide backing to the Ethiopia Tamrt movement, which seeks to revolutionize the manufacturing industry sector.
He disclosed that this support will include knowledge and technology transfer, along with capacity building initiatives.
The MoU was signed by Industry Minister Mr. Melaku Alebel and Chief Representative of JICA Ethiopia Office Oshima Kensuke.
