Ministry calls for serious attention from leadership at all levels to prevent, control TB

Addis Ababa, November 28, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Ministry of Health has emphasized that the leadership at all levels should pay serious attention to the prevention and control of TB disease as well as to increase the necessary domestic finances.

A continental forum focusing on increasing political commitment and improved domestic financing to prevent and control TB in Africa is being held in Addis Ababa.

At the forum, the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Dereje Dhuguma, emphasized that governments should realize that TB disease is a major public health challenge and that they should provide strong leadership at the top level of political leaders to control TB disease.

He also said that countries should develop effective funding requests to increase their internal finances and take steps to address environmental, economic and other issues that increase the risk of TB.

It was noted that the forum will discuss best practices adopted by different countries, international and national strategies, issues that will help to inform the use of proven methods to achieve TB prevention and treatment goals set to diagnose and successfully treat all types of TB.

The Ministry indicated that scientific studies will be presented and discussed to inform researchers, policies to improve services and monitor them.

In the discussion, managers of national TB programs in Africa, local regional and international partners, civil societies, communities affected by TB and other stakeholders were invited to attend and make the necessary cooperation.
