Addis Ababa, May 23, 2023 (FBC) – Girma Amente, Minister, Ministry of Agriculture of Ethiopia, met with Harjit Singh Sajjan, Minister of International Development of Canada.
Girma Amente briefed the Canadian Minister and his delegation regarding the agricultural development works that are being undertaken in Ethiopia and where results have been recorded.
They also extensively exchanged views on food security, climate change and biodiversity, land management and utilization, soil health and safety, market linkages and other similar issues, as well as the works to be done in the process of modernizing the agricultural sector.
Harjit Sajjan, on his part, said that the Canadian government is keen on assisting Ethiopia’s efforts to boost agricultural production and productivity, to modernize the sector, and to ensure food security.
The Canadian Minister of International Development and his delegation have arrived in Ethiopian on May 21, 2023, for official working visit. During his stay in Ethiopia, the Canadian Minister has also met with Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia. During their discussion, Mr. Sajjan affirmed that the government of Canada is ready to support Ethiopia’s holistic development undertakings.
Moreover, Harjit Singh Sajjan also held a discussion with the representatives of the African Union in Addis Ababa.
