Addis Ababa, July 24, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Irrigation & Lowlands of Ethiopia (MILLs) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) today announced partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding which extends a framework of cooperation and facilitates collaboration in the form of partnership between the organizations.
“We’ll mobilize resources for Technical Assistance, studies, pilots and scale ups and harnessing the abundant untapped resources to develop our lowlands, with a special focus on irrigation for a flourishing future,” said Aisha Mohammed, Minister of MILLs.
This historic agreement was entered into by Minister Aisha Mohammed and Mrs. Worknesh Mekonnen, Director, Ethiopia Multi-Country Office and UNOPs Representative to AU.
MILLs mentioned that this collaboration will pave the way for transformative development in the Ethiopian Lowlands, unlocking the untapped resources and ushering in a new era of prosperity and opportunity.
In conformance with the latest MoU, both sides will work hand in hand to mobilize resources for technical assistance, conducting comprehensive feasibility studies, pilots, and scaleups. These initiatives are crucial in identifying and capitalizing on the vast potential of the Ethiopian Lowlands.
It is stated that both MILLs and UNOPS share a common vision that the Ethiopian Lowlands are lands of immense opportunity, not scarcity.
“Together, we are determined to harness these abundant resources and drive forward the development of our lowlands, with a special focus on irrigation to ensure a flourishing future for our communities,” the Ministry emphasized.
