Meta teams up with Ethio Telecom to boost digital services in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, October 14, 2024 (FBC) – In a significant move to enhance digital services in Ethiopia, Meta Platforms announced its flagship program in partnership with Ethio telecom. This initiative follows a strategic discussion between Ethio telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru and Vikas Menon, Meta’s Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships for the Middle East and Africa, along with senior Meta executives.

The collaboration aims to improve the digital experience for customers by introducing initiatives that increase data usage. As part of the agreement, users will have free access to Meta-Facebook services, even without a balance, allowing them to stay connected. Furthermore, vital resources related to health, education, and job opportunities will be available at no cost, fostering an informed and empowered citizenry.

Frehiwot Tamru highlighted the goal of enhancing digital inclusion in Ethiopia by leveraging both companies’ platforms. The partnership will also prioritize the development of digital literacy programs, support for local content creation and cultural preservation, cybersecurity enhancements, and customer data privacy.

Once implemented, this strategic collaboration promises to significantly enhance the accessibility and inclusiveness of digital services, elevate digital literacy, and improve overall customer experiences in Ethiopia.
