Addis Ababa, October 10, 2021 (FBC) – The National Mental Health Day has been celebrated in Dire Dawa city, the organizer and host of the event.
Being marked under the theme “Mental Health Care for All,” the occasion has shown that the number of people affected by mental illness is rising nationally.
Advisor at the Ethiopian Health Ministry, Fekadu Yadeta, stated that a five year strategic plan is in preparation with the objective of scaling up quality services and reducing the number of people with mental health conditions.
Disease Prevention and Control Director at the Ministry, Dr Hiwot Solomon, reminding the adage that “there is no health without mental health,” has called for concerted actions to better respond for the scourge.
Globally, the number of people with mental problems has exceeded one billion, it was noted.
