Mekelle City reopens all schools, resumes teaching activities

Addis Ababa, June 7, 2021 (FBC) – All public and private schools in Mekelle City have been officially reopened today, and restarted the teaching-learning activities.

Acting Head of the city Education Office, Genet Mebratu said that 32 public and more than 30 private schools have received their students and resumed teaching activity.

Officials of the Interim Administration have consulted with parents and other stakeholders and concerned bodies of the education sector before the reopening of the educational institutions.

Schools that encountered damage and partial destruction during the TPLF insurgency and the consequent law enforcement measure have been renovated and equipped with all the necessary equipment and facility, Genet sad.

Deputy Head of Tigray Interim Administration, Engineer Aster Yitbarek, to her part announced preparations to reopen schools in other parts of the region.
