Malaysia launches national office for artificial intelligence

Moscow, January 4, 2025 (TV BRICS/FMC) – Malaysia has inaugurated a national artificial intelligence (AI) office to shape new policy and regulatory challenges in a bid to become a regional centre for AI development.

The office will become the central agency for AI, providing strategic planning, research and development, and regulatory oversight. This is reported by Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

In its first year, the office will set seven objectives, including the development of a code of ethics, regulatory standards for AI and a five-year IT action plan to 2030.

Digital projects have already contributed to the growth of Malaysia’s economy in 2024, where approved investments in the information and communication technology sector reached 71.1 billion Malaysian ringgit (US$16.06 billion).
