London is due to host an Ethiopian coffee exhibition on December 17, Embassy confirms

Addis Ababa, December 15, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Embassy in London has announced that it is hosting the first Ethiopian Coffee Exhibition in the capital of the United Kingdom, on December 17.

Ethiopia is one of the world’s leading producer, consumer, and exporter of coffee, and coffee, the country’s highest export product, is the backbone of its economy.

Following the government’s new marketing and export policy to allow direct coffee exports by smallholders, to encourage vertical integration and improve coffee traceability, coffee production in Ethiopia has grown steadily over the past consecutive years and, with suitable growing conditions.

More importantly, the Government of Ethiopia implemented reforms in the coffee value chain to enhance coffee production, productivity, and exports.

Despite being the origin of coffee, Ethiopia has not yet fully built on its distinction as the world’s top coffee exporter. Considering this, the Embassy is hosting the event on Saturday, in London.

The event, according to the Embassy, aims to create enabling environment for Ethiopian coffee enthusiasts, buyers, traders, and connoisseurs so that exporters can directly connect with buyers and end users.

It is also stated that the exhibition further aims to showcase Ethiopian coffee so that consumers and buyers will be more aware of authentic Ethiopian coffee.

The exhibition will be a fun-packed, one-day mini-display of what Ethiopia has to offer in terms of its delicious coffees and traditions. There will be a traditional coffee ceremony, presentations, a cupping session, coffee tastings, and coffee samples from Ethiopian roast coffee exporters. Up to 30 exhibitors, including traders in coffee, a small number of Ethiopian exporters of green and roasted coffee, purchasers, and roasters from the UK, will be in attendance. Additionally, major companies, coffee organisations, importers, coffee brokers, and coffee enthusiasts will be among the trade visitors, as per the Embassy of Ethiopia in London.
