Addis Ababa, December 16, 2024 (FMC) – The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on Monday lauded the Ankara Declaration which would help end the differences between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Federal Republic of Somalia by fostering peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.
The Ankara Declaration, mediated by the Republic of Türkiye, came under discussion during a meeting between Jemal Beker, Ambassador of Ethiopia designated to Kyrgyzstan with residence in Islamabad, and Temirbek Erkinov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
On the occasion, Ambassador Jemal Beker presented copies of his credentials to the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and discussed matters of mutual interest including full spectrum of the bilateral relations of Ethiopia and the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted the priority and focus given by Ethiopia to its neighboring countries in its foreign policy to integrate the region by ensuring regional peace and sustainable development.
He said the Ankara Declaration is an outcome the reforms undertaken by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who is a strong proponent of shared prosperity and sustainable development.
Jemal said the declaration is based on a win-win scenario and aimed at accomplishing peace and stability in the region, and providing Ethiopia an access to sea as enshrined in the international laws.
Ethiopia has rendered numerous sacrifices for global peace by consistently participating in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions in the region and beyond, the Ambassador remarked.
He also briefed the Deputy Minister about comprehensive reforms carried out by Ethiopia in economic, social and legal spheres that helped Ethiopia achieve impressive economic progress.
The Ambassador expressed his government’s commitment to strengthen its relations with the Kyrgyz Republic by enhancing bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation.
In response, the Kyrgyz Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs affirmed the commitment of his country to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia in business, trade, investment, aviation, education, health and cultural areas.
The Deputy Minister appreciated the Ankara Declaration between Ethiopia and Somalia, as per a press note from the Ethiopian Embassy in Islamabad sent today to Fana Media Corporation.
