Joint opening session of HoPR, HoF to be held on Monday in presence of President Sahle-Work

Addis Ababa, October 4, 2024 (FBC) – The joint opening session of the FDR Ethiopia House of People’s Representatives (HoPR) and the House of Federation (HoF) for the 2024/25 fiscal year is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 7, 2024, with the attendance of President Sahle-Work Zewde.

In accordance with Article 58 Sub-Article (2) of the Ethiopian Constitution and Article 24 Sub-Article (1) of the parliament’s Code of Conduct and MPs’ Ethics No. 6/2008, the parliament’s annual tenure starts in the last week of September and ends on June 30 of the Ethiopian calendar, according to a press release issued today by the HoPR.

During Monday’s joint opening session, President Sahle-Work is expected to present the federal government’s annual plan for the current fiscal year, which will be followed by further deliberations and debates by the MPs.

HoPR stated that the session will be attended by parliamentarians, ambassadors from various countries, representatives of multilateral institutions, religious leaders, renowned personalities, leaders of opposition political parties, and other invited guests.

The session is expected to be a significant event, with the presence of various dignitaries and guests, and will be a platform for the MPs to discuss and deliberate on the annual plan presented by the President. The joint opening session will mark the beginning of the fourth year of the tenure of both houses and is expected to be a productive and impactful event for the nation.
