Japan pledges enhanced support for Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector

Addis Ababa, October 30, 2024 (FBC) – Japan has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering support to Ethiopia’s manufacturing industry to enhance competitiveness of the sector.

During a meeting held today, Ethiopia’s Minister of Industry, Melaku Alebel and Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, SHIBATA Hironori explored ways to boost productivity within the sector by supporting the Made in Ethiopia initiative and emerging industries in the country.

Minister Melaku expressed gratitude for Japan’s ongoing assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and urged the agency to amplify its support, emphasizing that a more efficient and competitive manufacturing sector is crucial for the nation’s overall development.

The Minister highlighted Japan as a model in manufacturing development, noting that Ethiopia has established favorable policies and systems for investment in this field. He also encouraged the ambassador to promote Ethiopia as a prime destination for Japanese investors in the manufacturing industry.

Ambassador SHIBATA affirmed that there is considerable interest among Japanese investors in establishing a presence in Ethiopia.
