Addis Ababa, January 21, 2025 (FMC) – The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), led by Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon, held its 2025 International Branch Annual General Meeting at the Daegu Joongang Convention Center. The event, attended by representatives from 110 IWPG branches worldwide, celebrated the organization’s successes in 2024 and unveiled its vision and roadmap for the coming year.
About 600 participants, including IWPG members, staff, advisers, and public ambassadors, joined both in-person and virtually. Awards were presented to branches excelling in various sectors: Cheonan and Mongolia for new member recruitment; Jeongeup and Mongolia for Peace Committee establishment; Colombia for Peace Lecturer Training Education; Yeosu and Indonesia for media coverage; East Busan and Mongolia for MOU/A signing; the Philippines for Peace Monument establishment; Geojae for CMS membership; and Gimhae and Uganda for staff growth.
Global Region 9 was recognized as the Most Excellent Global Region, highlighting the Ulaanbaatar Branch in Mongolia for its remarkable progress. Ms. Misook Lim, Director of Global Region 9, expressed pride in their achievements and emphasized continual development for global engagement.
Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor Hong Joon-pyo congratulated IWPG on its significant impact since its inception in 2013, advocating for women’s rights and global peace. IWPG Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon reflected on the organization’s recent collaborations with gender ministries and NGOs, noting successful peace education initiatives in Côte d’Ivoire and heightened interest in Fiji and Mexico. She reaffirmed the commitment of IWPG members to actively promote peace, urging them to persevere in their mission for sustainable harmony across the globe.
IWPG is an international women’s NGO registered in UN ECOSOC and UN DGC. It has 114 branches in 123 countries, and 808 partner organizations in 66 countries.
