Addis Ababa, September 13, 2020 (FBC) – Republic of Ireland has appointed Nicola Brennan as its new ambassador to Ethiopia with responsibility for South Sudan and Djibouti.
Nicola Brennan has been serving as director of International Development Policy and Cooperation for African Division at Irish Department of Foreign Affairs.
Interested in pursuing a career in international development, she completed a masters degree in development administration and management at the University of Manchester, before joining the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1996.
“We have a very strong focus on women’s empowerment and gender equality, and we are working to really position ourselves more on having greater influence in that space in Ethiopia”, she said.
According to Leinster Leader, Nicola affirmed to focus on the reduction of poverty, ensuring good access to healthcare, to education and rural development in her tenure in Ethiopia.
The newly appointed ambassador also reiterated the commitment of Ireland to support the Ethiopian government and the region on issues relating to peace and stability.
