Addis Ababa, October 19, 2024 (FBC) – The International Space University based in France has pledged to establish a virtual campus in Ethiopia, as announced by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT).
This commitment was made during a meeting between Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Innovation and Technology, Yishak Alemayehu, and various stakeholders in the field of space science during the 75th International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy.
In this regard, Mr. Yishak consulted with the Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA), Josef Aschbacher, delegates from the United Arab Emirates Space Agency, the President of the International Space University, John Wensveen, officials of the Italian Space Agency, and astronauts.
During the discussion, the Ethiopian state minister requested that the European Space Agency provide Ethiopia with the opportunity to produce specialized items for space research in Ethiopia and create job opportunities for Ethiopians.
Drensveen, President of the International Space University, has committed to establishing a virtual campus in Ethiopia. Josef Aschbacher, Director General of the European Space Agency, stated that the ESA will support the production of space science equipment in Ethiopia and create job opportunities for Ethiopians in the process.
According to information from the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT), the discussions covered creating job opportunities, building the capacity of young people through both long and short-term training, joint satellite construction, and similar issues.
These initiatives are expected to contribute to the growth and development of the space science sector in Ethiopia and provide valuable opportunities for its youth.
