Addis Ababa, August 28, 2023 (FBC) – The interim head coach of the Ethiopian football national team, Daniel Gebre-Mariam, called-up 23 players for the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Egypt.
The interim head coach opted to include goalkeepers Seid Habtamu, Abubeker Nura and Binyam Genetu at his disposal.
For the defensive department, Daniel called-up Henok Adugna, Alemberhan Yigzaw, Million Solomon, Aschalew Tamane, Mignot Debebe, Ammanuel Terfa, Remedan Yesuf and Fraol Mengstu.
Meanwhile, the coach included midfielders Gatuoch Panom, Amanuel Yohannes, Shimels Bekele (C), Surafel Dagnachew, Biniam Belay, Kene’an Markneh, and Wogene Gezahegn.
Daniel looks to freshen up his frontline as he omitted some high profile strikers. Abel Yalew, Dawa Hotesa, Chernet Gugsa, Fitsum Tilahun, and Habtamu Taddese will be lead the frontline.
The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) stated that the selected players are expected to start preparations early this week in Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia national team will face Egypt in the lat group game of the AFCON 2024. Ethiopia has beaten Egypt 2-0 in the first leg of this tie in Malawi. However, The Walias sit bottom of group D with 4 points, whereas the Pharaohs are top of the group and have already booked their place in the 2024 AFCON tournament which will be hosted by Ivory Coast.
