Interim Admin CEO calls partners to support rebuilding efforts in Tigray

Addis Ababa, June 4, 2021 (FBC) – Addressing the High-level meeting of Dr. Abraham Belay, Head of the Tigray Region administration, on his part, affirmed that except some pocket areas access has been granted in all parts of the region. He said that some reports regarding the access have denied the reality on the ground. Most of the concerns raised related to limited access have been resolved, he reassured.

He said the federal and regional governments have been using their scarce resources to rebuild most of the infrastructures and public services, such as telecommunication, electricity, banking, and financial services that were destroyed by TPLF.

The Telecom service is working in most parts of Tigray and the coverage has reached 70pct of the region, he added. “Therefore, there is no need to import additional telecommunication equipment from abroad” he stressed.

What we need now is material and financial support, he said adding that many IDPs in the region need to go back home equipped with basic facilities. He stressed need to construct shelters before the rainy season starts.

He called upon the international partners and stakeholders to support the reconstruction of houses of the IDPs to help return them back to their home places.

Saying that many international aid organizations are now operating in the region, Dr. Abrham said the support of the NGOs are not fulfilling the requirements of the interim administration in rebuilding affected infrastructures and constructing shelters and facilities.

Distribution of humanitarian assistance is well underway almost in all parts of the region, he underlined.

Offices of Public institutions and other service delivery organizations have encountered a serious damage due to the attack from the terrorist TPLF, he said, calling for concerted efforts to fix the problem.
