Addis Ababa, January 20, 2022 (FBC) – Ethiopian Agricultural Research Institute has unveiled Agricultural Stress Index System (ASIS) to monitor and predict risks of drought and related natural disasters that may affect the agricultural activity.
The institute has been undertaking research studies to identify the impact of the size, duration and distribution of the rainfall on the agricultural development activities.
Based on the findings of the research, the institute has developed a digital technology that would help collect data on weather conditions and risks of drought and so as to enhance agricultural productivity.
The technology is said to have paramount significance in supporting the agricultural extension program and ensuring food security.
The ASIS would also support farmers to mitigate impacts of natural disasters, and government to make timely decision to minimizing the impacts of drought on agriculture.
