Addis Ababa, August 27, 2021 (FBC) – Indian Permanent Representative to the UN, T. S. Tirumurti said TPLF is spreading the conflict to neighboring regions of the Amhara and Afra regional states putting civilians at stake.
The conflict is posing severe impact on civilians population particularly women, children and the elderly, and resulted in the killings of innocent people. The permanent representative said the TPLF terrorist group is committing humanitarian violations and use of child solders. The belligerence from TPLF is worsening humanitarian situation in northern Ethiopia, he said.
“We take note of the efforts of Ethiopian government to address the humanitarian situation and alleviate the suffering of the people,” he underlined.
He appreciated joint investigations by OCHA and Ethiopian Human Rights Commission in alleged humanitarian abuses in northern Ethiopia.
Establishment of emergency coordinating centers in several northern parts of Ethiopia by the government is commendable, he added.
The international community should come together to enhance humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia, Indian permanent representative said.
“For decades, Ethiopia has been an engine of economic growth in the horn of Africa region, but, today Ethiopia needs support from the international community to address current situation,” he noted.
India reiterates its strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ethiopia.
