Addis Ababa, March 15, 2021 (FBC) – The Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) said an independent watchdog of human rights is emerging in Ethiopia.
Referring to the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the DIHR said Ethiopia has got an independent institution that is enhancing its ability to protect and promote human rights free from government interference.

The political reform in Ethiopia has paved ways for a remarkable independence of the EHRC, the institute remarked.
DIHR added that the appointment of Dr. Daniel Bekele as Chief new chief commissioner in July, 2019 and approval of the new law of the commission by the parliament in July, 2021 along with the reform have played important role in advancing self-efficiency of EHRC.
Developing a strong and independent national human rights institution is vital for the protection and promotion of human rights in Ethiopia, said DIHR, pledging continued support to EHRC.
